HEATING DELAY
Papamii H.S. Protest Because there is doubt whether the Papanui High School can be heated next term, the board of governors will protest to the Ministry of Works. Two new boilers had been installed to heat the enlarged school but, apparently because automatic stokers had not been ordered early and had not yet arrived, they could not function fully, said the headmaster (Mr E. Fancy). A temporary stoker had been lent by the Ministry of Works but it would have to be filled bag by bag. The school had not been able to get any undertaking from the contractor on operations in the second term. Mr R. H. Truscott moved that the Ministry of Works, as supervisees, be informed of the board's “intense dissatisfaction.”
“It is essential that we have heat,” said Mr O. C. Mitchell. “Without heat we can’t open in the second term,” said Professor A. Crowther.
