Record, But Only Just

(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) LONDON. A British solicitor yesterday broke the 28-year-old three-hour water speed record on Lake Windermere, Westmorland, the “Daily Express” reported. Mr N. Buckley, aged 57, and his co-driver, Mr B. Redman, drove the hydroplane, Miss Windermere IV, 227 miles at an average speed of 75.9 m.p.h. The previous record of 55 m.p.h. was held by Italy. On the fifth lap a petrol feed pipe to the carburettors of the engine in the hydroplane started to block. The engine finally cut out one minute after the three-hour run.
