Good Day For New Zealand-Bred Horses

Wet tracks in Sydney and Melbourne last week-end brought with them a run of successes by little-fancied horses, but they did not end the impressive run of successes by New Zealand-breds. Victory Boy (Marco Polo ll—Mere-Ana) showed his liking for the conditions with a sound win in the Rosehill Handicap, one mile and a quarter. Earlier, Summer Flash, a five-year-old mare by Summertime from Melbourne, won the Second Glanville Stakes, seven furlongs, at 14/1. At Moonee Valley in Melbourne, four winners on the seven-race programme, held much interest for New Zealand. Lindsay, a five-year-old

by Count Rendered from Gentle Tact, was too strong in stamina for the others over 13 furlongs in the Strathmore Purse. He won by two lengths. New Zealand-bred two-year-olds filled the first three places in a race for colts and geldings. Pharaon and Phar Time, the first two home, are both by Pharamond, and Plymouth Hoe, which was third, is by Talismano from Vasty Deep, and so a half-brother to Clipper. Petite, winner of a 10 furlong race for three-year-olds, is a daughter of Arctic Explorer, now at stud in New Zealand, The Thief, winner of the steeplechase, is, not surprisingly, by Le Filou.
