CLEANING TUNNEL

Complaint Of Delav J The tunnel was getting to the “dowdy” stage—the walls were not bad. but the ceiling was drab, Mr L. G. Amos complained to the Christ-church-Lyttelton Road Tunnel Authority yesterday. What had happened to the cleaning machine which had been ordered? he asked. Was it ever going to be delivered’’ “I have had many complimentary remarks about the tunnel and people have been amazed to hear that it has been done by hand,” said the chairman (Mr R. A. Witbrock). Mr Amos: If the machine cannot be made in the city perhaps we should look further afield. The truck to carry the equipment had arrived, but the contractors had still not completed design details, said Mr L. H. Wilson, the general manager. He was satisfied that the contractors were doing all they could to get the proper machine.
