SNOOKER DISPLAY

Champion In Good Form The afternoon exhlbiitcon of snooker at the Post Office Social Club’s rooms by the world pairs champion, E. Charlton, was a superb performance of skill and artistry. His text-book cue action and control of the white bait! round the top of the table was remarkable. Seldom d'id he mess the ball left “on,” and his positional play groin this point was immaculate.

In his game wtlh D. Hallum he accepted the only major chance offered with five reds left, and promptly potted them and the six colours for a break of 60. In his next game against the double New Zealand champion, T. Yesberg, he was in magnificent form, compiling a break of 62 from a seemingly hopeless position T. Mintrom, playing a more defensive game, kept Chartion at bay to win by five points. Breaks of 42 and 25 against W. Cranfield gave him his third win. R. Stevenson scored 13 from a Charlton break, missed an easy brown when screwing for position, and conceded 70 points in two shots by the Australian.

Stevenson and Yesberg won their games in the evening session and W. Adams, R. o’Calllaghan and G. Logan also notched wins. Adams was potting in fine style, humiliating the professional with a score of 130-10. E. Simons had two close encounters at billiards with Charlton. He lost the first 200 up by 19 paints, and the second session by 10. The all-round play of Simons was superior, but he cold not contain the brilliant petting of his opponent In Charlton’s breaks of 42 (twice), 44 and 51, totalling 179, 141 points were scored off the red. In a more relaxed style, Charlton displayed a fine range of trick shots which were welt! received by an enthusiastic audience.
