WOMEN’S TALENTS
‘Little Use In N.Z. (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, April 23. The country which first gave votes to women is not making use of the great reservoirs of energy, power and common sense women provide, according to Miss G. L. Gardner, chairman of the Auckland region of the Postprimap r Teachers’ Association. In het annual report to the regional organisation, Miss Gardner complains that the introduction of equal pay seems to have been accompanied at the expense of decreasing opportunities for women. She hears it argued as a reason that women are reluctant to accept responsibility, but to attract women into the professions it has to be shown that opportunities for promotion are there, she says. ' ■ There is not one woman on the 19-member National Advisory Council for Teacher Training or on the N.Z.B.C. Only 25 piincipalships in coeducational schools are held by women, compared with 166 by men, she says. "The. social pattern is changing and few women in the future will remain at home after their families no longer need their care,” says Miss Gardner.
