CHURCH AID PROJECTS
N.C.C. Official For Talks The inter-church aid secretary of the National Council of Churches (Mr F. G. Hearu) would attend a world conference on inter-church aid in July at Swanwick, England, the general secretary of the council (the Rev. D. M. Taylor) said yesterday. He would leave on May 31 and return on July 25 in time to present his report to the annual meeting of the council. The conference, called by the World Council of Churches, would be attended by church leaders and interchurch aid secretaries from many countries, some of which were affluent and some in grave economic need. On his outward journey, Mr Heard would stop at Hong Kong, Saigon, Calcutta, Delhi, Beirut, and Geneva. He would visit an area in India where aid was desperately needed. “He hopes to see some of the problems at first hand and to meet some of the relief worker's on the spot,” said Mr Taylor. Mr Heard hoped to visit a refugee camp in the Middle East. On the return journey he would visit the headquarters of the relief organisation of the Mennonite Church in Akron, Ohio. The presence of New Zealand representatives was so strongly desired that the World Council of Churches was meeting the cost, s:jid Mr Taylor. Also attending the conference would be Mr G. C. Burton, of Wellington, who would leave New Zealand in May on an extended tour.
