Obituary
MR F. V. CUTTS “The Press” Special Service AUCKLAND.
Mr F. V. Cutts, a trainer for more than 50 years, died at Hamilton recently. He was 78. He had a lot of good winners, the best of them the great little pacer Kenworthy. Among them were Hillcrest, Indian Game, Rose Craft, Courtesy, Albert Grattan and Dove Dale.
Kenworthy, which was owned by his brother, the late Mr S. A. Cutts, of Mangere, was the first two-year-old to win against older horses. Driven by F. C. Walker, he won a mile and a quarter race at Claudelands toward the end of the 1934-35 season. There was a field of 17. Kenworthy, which was only a shade over 14 hands, won by half a length. He went on to develop outstanding form, although his best performance probably was a losing one. That was when he finished second to Josedale Grattan in the New Zealand Trotting Cup in 1941. The time of 4:15 was then a world winning record for two miles.
