Official results of the recent Canterbury Car Club Gold Star rally place the outstanding Christchurch crew of M. C. Wear (Cortina GT) first, B. Hepburn (Ford Zodiac) second, T. D. Craig (Chrysler Valiant) third, H. J. Waller (Vanguard) fourth and R. L. Bell (Singer Vogue) fifth. The winning team was Hepburn, Wear and W. Renalson (Morris Oxford). There were 20 starters and two retirements. * *
Jack Brabham, driving a Brabham-Honda, won the Pau formula two grand prix recently, with Denis
Hulme in a similar car second. Graham Hill was third in a Brabham-B.R.M. Jackie Stewart was fourth in a Matra-B.R.M. and Alan Rees was fifth in a Brab-ham-Cosworth. Jim Clark, whose Lotus-Cosworth was out for two laps with engine trouble, finished sixth and set a new lap record. Ss * $
Of the fastest 10 cars at the Le Mans trials recently, eight were Fords, one (the fifth fastest) was a 4-4-litre Ferrari, and one was a 2-litre Matra-B.R.M. The fastest car was the 7-litre Ford J, driven by Chris Amon, which lapped in 3min 34.45ec. :S $
The nine finishing cars in the East African Safari rally—out of 88 starters — were, in order of placing, Peugeot 404, Ford Cortina GT, Volvo, Lotus Cortina, Datsun, Datsun. Volkswagen, Ford Cortina, and Mercedes 220 SE. The Cortinas won the team prize and the 1600 c.c. class. Datsun won the 1300 c.c. class, Peugeot the 2000 c.c. class, and Mercedes the 3000 c.c. class.
