Maori Passes Toor’

(N.Z. Press Association) OTAKI, April 20. A revised curriculum “with less theory and more practical” should be introduced for Maori students sitting the School Certificate examination, according the the Mayor of Otaki, Mr O. H. E. Yates. Because for them the examination is not set along suitable lines, the percentage of Maori passes in the school certificate examination would be poor throughout the Dominion, said Mr Yates. At a council meeting in Otaki during a discussion on today’s education system, Mr Yates, a retired headmaster, said the time was long overdue when schools with a large percentage of Maori students on their roll should have additional staff.
