TRAINING TRACK

More Finance Needed

N.Z. Press Association) HAMILTON

A substantial increase in the subsrdy provided by the New Zealand Racing Conference is needed to maintain the training track at Cambridge. The Racing Conference Committee of Inquiry was told this at Hamilton on Thursday by Mr J. R. H. Nolan, speaking on behalf of the Cambridge Jockey Olub. The Cambridge Jockey Club hoids an annual meeting at Te Rapa and depends entirely on the proceeds from this meeting and T.A.B. distribution to maintain the Cambridge training track. Horses in training have increased almost three fold in the last four years and the club is finding it increasingly difficult to continue operations The committee of inquiry also heard submissions from the Waikato Hunt Club, which races annually at Te Rapa. Mr W Brown, master of the hunt, submitted that all hunt clubs holding totaCfsator permits should have a delegate each to the New Zealand Racing Conference.

Mr Brown also recommended to the committee that in future the distribution of T.A.B. profits s-hou’.d be calculated on offcourse turn over only. Mr R B Lnrigan. secretary of the Wa kato Hunt Club, requested a thorough examination of the allocation of racing dates. He said that Waikato Hunt Club, which has raced for more than 50 years on Labour Day. was allocated a mid-week meeting in September last year and suffered a substantial loss as a result. The club was forced to reduce stakes. Marlow Sold Marlow, which was passed at 130gns at the annual Easter bloodstock sale yesterday, was later sold to the Matamata Bloodstock Agency for 150gns. The vendor of this seven-year-old Khorassan gelding was Mr N. A. Syme, of Christchurch.
