TROTTING POUPETTE & GALA SONG FANCIED

On-Course Double At

Addington Today

Poupette and Gala Song look a likely combination for the on-course double which will be run on the heats of the New Zealand Trotting Championship at Addington Raceway today.

Poupette ran Gala Song to a halflength decision and recorded the fastest time in the two heats on the first night.

She is certain to be improved by that race and her superior stamina should help her overcome her handicap of 30 yards.

Poupette will today be driven by her trainer, H. W. Cox. Last week she was handled by M. A. Skinner as Cox’s arrival at the course was delayed. Asia Minor received a poor run last week and could do no better than eighth. He will need to finish in a place in this race to ensure himself a start in the £2OOO final on April 23. He is one of'the best trotters in commission and he should be one of the better prospects. Harbour Light dead-heated for first with Grand Charge in her heat last week. Once more

she can be expected to give a good account of herself. Flying Maiden, the beaten favourite in her heat last week, Marshella and Queen’s Cord appeal most of the others. Gala Song won so well last Saturday that she looks to have bright prospects of winning again in the second leg of this double. Her ability to maintain a handy position throughout her races should stand to her. When and Our Eileen might be the hardest for Gala Song to beat. When finished fast for fourth last week, but Our Eileen was a big disappointment. She worked pleasingly on Tuesday morning and could be much harder to beat. Grand Charge, a surprise winner last week, Snow Globe, Castleton’s Gift and Ali Bey are others capable of giving a good account of themselves. The T.A.B. double will be run on the heats of the Royal Easter Cup, Robin Dundee and Doctor Barry forming a likely combination. Fair weather is forecast and the track will be fast.
