AUCKLAND BUILDING

Govt’s Policy Attacked (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, April 8. New building planned in Auckland was falling rapidly and if the trend continued many builders would be out of work, said the president of the Auckland Master Builders’ Association, Mr W. A. Lane. His association viewed the future with alarm. He said a recent survey by the association showed that many commercial building firms in Auckland had on the average only three to four months’ work ahead. This Situation was far from healthy. Jobs advertised for public tender were now drawing up to 12 or more tenderers and resulting in uneconomic tendering. The amount of work in architects’ offices was also decreasing rapidly.

“The immediate future for the industry in Auckland is causing the association concern and there appears no justification for the continuance of the Government’s building programming policy,” he said.
