DOUBLE TROUBLE.—Dan Irwin, aged 19, of Princeton, British Columbia, Canada, is looking one way, but trouble is developing in the other direction as he races in the Alpine International slalom championships at Stowe, Vermont. Irwin’s left ski is about to straddle the slalom pole, and his boot is coming out of the safety-release binding on the ski. He avoided a bad spill, but had to withdraw from the race.
