SAMARITAN SOCIETY

Plans For New Branch Another branch of the Good Samaritan Society will be formed in the Riccarton area when an inaugural meeting is held in St. Peter’s Hail, Church corner, on Thursday. April 14. The aims of the society, an undenominational organisation which offers assistance to the needy and aged in Christchurch, will be explained at the meeting. Already 39 residents have offered their services to the new branch. On March 17, delegates from churches in the area and the Townswomen’s Guild met in St. Ninlan’s Hall to define the branch’s district, and to appoint provisional officers. Mr I. D. Macintosh was elected chairman, and Mr S. Perrot secretary of the management committee. An area secretary has still to be appointed. He will receive and evaluate all calls for assistance before passing them on to zone secretaries for action. The churches sponsoring the society are: St. James’s, Clarence road Methodist, St. Ninian’s, St. Teresa’s, Upper Riccarton Methodist, St. Peter’s, St. Mark’s, Our Lady of Victories, St. Stephen’s, St. Christopher’s, and Withell’s road Presbyterian. 'Hie Townswomen’s Guild is also supporting the branch.
