Market Steadier But Undertone Is Weaker

Trading yesterday followed a steadier trend but there was a weaker undertone. New Zealand issues were just about in balance, while in the overseas list falls were ahead of rises. B.H.P. featured with a fall of Is 9d to 43s 3d making a loss of 2s 3d in two days.

New Zealand Breweries, up Id at 13s sd, and Unit Subdivision, up 2d to 6s 4d, continued rising. Key stocks made up most of the New Zealand gains. Robert Holt rose 2d to 9s 9d ex dividend, Buntings 3d to 10s and Wilson Cement 6d to 24s 3d. New Zealand Refining slipped 6d to 36s 6d from Wednesday’s high point.

Sharpe-t moves by Australian stocks were downward. A.N.Z. fell 9d to 52s 3d, C.B.A. 3d to 18s 6d, C.S.R. 3d to 25s 9d, E.Z. Industries Is 6d to 19s. G. J. Coles, Waltons and Mount Isa lost more ground.
