WRONG INTERPRETATION
QOME persons have placed the wrong interpretation on a recent article in “The Press” suggesting that the New Zealand sprint champion, A. G. Steel (Old Boys), would be in the running for All Black selection this season.
This was merely the opinion of the sports writer concerned, certainly not Steel’s own personal opinion as some of his critics would prefer to believe. The first Steel knew of the article
was when it was published last Wednesday.
Because he did not wish to place too much strain on his injured leg, Steel did not compete at the Blenheim
invitation meeting last Saturday. This would have been Ms last opportunity to impress the Empire Games selectors with a fast time for he will not race again until the Hastings Highland Games on Easter Saturday and Monday.
He began his road work yesterday and will obviously not be at his sprinting peak for the 100, 220 and 440 yards events he will contest at Hastings.
