CLARK SCULPTURES AT ACADEMY SHOW
Sculpture by the wellknown Christchurch artist, Russell Clark, will be a special feature of the autumn exhibition of the New Zealand Academy of
Fine Arts in Wellington. Mr Clark, who is a lecturer at the Canterbury University School of Art, is distinguished as a painter and an illustrator as well as a sculptor, having demonstrated his versatility in many branches of art and in many media. He served as official war artist with the New Zealand forces in the Pacific during the Second World War: he has illustrated books by New Zealand authors, “The Listener” and other publications. He is represented by work in the permanent collections in art galleries throughout the country.
Mr Clark will be exhibit-
ing his sculpture as a guest artist at the autumn exhibition, which will otherwise be confined to paintings and drawings. More Work Submitted
The exhibition will be opened by Mr Gilbert Docking, Director of the Auckland City Art Gallery, at a private view on May 13, and will be open to the public from May 14 to June 5. This is the first of the academy’s three main exhibitions of the year. It will be followed in September by an exhibition of sculpture, pottery and graphic art, and in November by the annual exhibition of painting and drawing. The increasing number of artists submitting work from all parts of New Zealand has shown that the academy is progressing towards its object of presenting the best of the country’s art of today.
