SHOW PRESIDENT

The President of the Hawarden Agricultural and Pastoral Association’s show this year is Mr A. S. Williamson, who lives in Hawarden township. Mr Williamson has now lived in Hawarden for 11 years, and is employed there by the Canterbury Frozen Meat Company. Before coming to Hawarden he worked at Rakaia. During the Second World War he served in the Royal New Zealand Air Force, and flew fighters and bombers in England and India. Mr Williamson was born in Geraldine, and was educated at St. Andrews College, Christchurch. After leaving school he went mustering, and then in 1938 he joined the staff of the Canterbury Frozen Meat Company. He joined the air force in 1940 and when he returned to New Zealand in 1945 he rejoined the Canterbury Frozen Meat Company. After some time in Rakaia he moved to Hawarden. Mr Williamson’s family has

been associated with agricultural and pastoral association shows before—his grandfather was president of the Ashburton Show about 1900. Mr Williamson has been associated with the Hawarden Agricultural and Pastoral Association ever since he moved into the district. As his work takes him regularly around the farms, he is wellknown to local farmers and breeders. Mr Williamson is married and has a family of four, all of whom are grown. One son works in Hawarden, another is a farm cadet at Brookside. One daughter is at present on a trip to South Africa, and the other works for the Canterbury Frozen Meat Company in Christchurch. He is a member of the Hawarden Golf Club, and has twice been club captain.
