FLOODLIT SOCCER

Clear-Cut Winners Each scoring clear-cut victories, Rangers, the host club, and Western went through to the semi-finals of the Rangers Park floodlit soccer tournament when the first round was completed last evening. Rangers were put into their winning stride with a goal n the fourth minute by W. Penman, last season’s Canterbury B representative, and went on to beat Shamrock, 4-1.

P. Coles added to the score with a penalty in the thirtyfifth minute, and in the second half B. Rumbold and R. Allen completed the Rangers' scoring. J. Logue, who has been a consistent goal-getter in the current indoor soccer series, replied for Shamrock. Western, too, made a quick breakaway against Waterside, D. Torkington and D. Bussey each scoring within the first five minutes. Western turned round leading, 2-0, and in the second half gained complete control, adding further goals through W. Treadwell (2) and C. Martin. In the semi-finals next Thursday, Rangers will play Western in the early match and Christchurch City will meet Shirley-Nomads in the second game.
