OPENING OF PARLIAMENT

P.M. Not Ready To Give Date (N.Z. Press Association)

WELLINGTON, March 16. The Governor-General, Sir Bernard Fergusson, and the Prime Minister, Mr Holyoake. discussed the opening date of Parliament during an hourlong meeting in Auckland this morning.

Mr Holyoake said afterwards: “I gave the GovernorGeneral an indication of my thinking.” He added that he could not say when he would be ready to announce the date.

But political observers in Wellington believe the third session of the 34th Parlia' ment will begin near the end of May and end late in October.

An early dose of the session would allow political parties about a month to campaign before the General Election, which is expected to be held late in November.
