Coach To Coast
Sir, —May I question your article in Tuesday’s paper, “Coach to Coast”? It was on the afternoon of March 17 that William Crawley arrived in Hokitika after leaving Christchurch on the afternoon of the 15th, bringing under his care a 12-passenger and a 17-passenger coach. This was in preparation for the commencement of a bi-weekly service between Christchurch and Hokitika on March 20, 1866. At the beginning of this service coaches left both towns simultaneously at 4 a.m., arriving at their destinations at 7 p.m. the following evening. The fare was £B.
