PUBLIC NOTICES TARIFF AND DEVELOPMENT BOARD NOTICE NO. 44 PUBLIC INQUIRY INTO IMPORT DUTIES AND IMPORT LICENSING AS AFFECTING FORK LIFT TRUCKS 1. In accordance with the recommendations made in Its report No. 47 of December 1. 1965, which have been approved by Government, the Tariff and Development Board • proposes to inquire into and report into the substantive rates of duty which should apply to fork life trucks and parts thereof classified under Tariff item 719.320.1. In conjunction with this inquiry the Board will also consider is) Import licensing as affecting such goods. (b) Whether, having regard to Interpretations contained in the Explanatory Notes to the Brussels Tariff Nomenclature. the description of such goods in Tariff item No. 719.320 1 should be amended to read • Elevating or stacking trucks (for example fork lift trucks).” Information extracted from the Explanatory Notes is contained in Appendix B to the abovementloned report. The present rates of duty in respect of Tariff item 719.320.1 are: British Preferential. 25 per cent. Australian Agreement. 35 per cent Canadian Agreement, 35 per cent. General Tariff. 60 per cent 2 The Board desires that any evidence given at this inquiry regarding the rates of duty which should be provided under Tariff item 719.320.1 should be confined to that aspect. The Board particularly desires evidence, including comparative cost data, on which to assess the capacity of the New Zealand industry to compete with imports. It is not desired that evidence tendered at the public inquiry held in March. 1965. regarding the general nature of the industry in Niyw Zealand or the question of concessionary entry for certain types of fork lift trucks or parts of trucks, should be repeated. 3. For the purpose of taking evidence the Board will hold a public inquiry commencing on Tuesday, June 14. 1966. at ID a m. in the Board Room. First Floor. Law Society Building, 26 Waring Taylor street. Wellington. 4 Subject to the foregoing any person who intends to tender evidence should comply with the "Notes for the Guidance of Witnesses,” which have been prepared by the Board. A copy of tnese notes may be obtained from the undernamed. 5. Twelve copies of a typewritten statement of the evidence to be tendered, compiled in accordance with these notes, should be lodged with the undernamed not later than Tuesday. May 31, 1966.
