(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Marell 3. The new Chief Justice, Mr 11. R. C. Wild, has been knighted. The Governor-General, Sir Bernard Fergusson, said today that the Queen had been pleased to confer the honour of Knight Commander of the Most Distinguished Order of St. Michael and St. George on Mr Herbert Richard Churton Wild on his assumption of the office of Chief Justice of New Zealand. Sir Richard Wild was sworn in as Chief Justice on January 28. He succeeded Sir Harold Barrowclough. Sir Richard Wild was formerly Solicitor-General. He is 53 and is the youngest Chief Justice since Sir James Prendergast in < 1875. He was born in Blenheim and educated at Feilding High School and Victoria University. During World

War 11 he rose to brigade major of the 4th Armoured Brigade. Sir Richard Wild was a partner in the Wellington legal firm of Bell, Gully and Company for 13 years until he was appointed Solicitor-General in 1957.
