Jockey Weighed In 141 b. Light

(New Zealand Press Association)

SYDNEY,

The New Zealand-bred six-year-old, Blissful Lad, at Rosehill on Saturday ran second

in the seven-and-a-half furlong Welter Handicap, but was disqualified when his jockey, J. Mclntyre, weighed in 141 b light.

Blissful Lad, which started at 33/1, finished second, one length and a quarter behind Count Radiant (4/1), with Count Remy (4/1) half a neck away third. Blissful Lad was handicapped to carry 10-6, and McIntyre claimed a 31b apprentice allowance. Mclntyre went to the scales after the race with his saddle and lead bag and weighed in a stone light. Apparently some of the lead to make up the big weight had not been placed in' the lead bag.

The stewards immediately disqualified Blissful Lad and placed Gold Fiddle (11/2) third.

An inquiry was opened and the stewards questioned McIntyre and trainer, H. H. Riley.

“We are satisfied this was the result of a genuine mistake on Mclntyre’s part in preparing his gear and the error was not detected by the responsible officials on weighing out" the stewards later reported
