TROTTING R. Young Could Add To Record Tonight
R. Y oung, who has already driven 35 winners this season and at present has a clear lead on the list of leading reinsmen, could improve on that tally at the Canterbury Park Trotting Club’s summer meeting at Addington Raceway tonight.
Handicap, first leg of the i T-A.B. double. , In spite of sound form. . Harbour Light might not be the popular fancy. It seems more than likely that Poupette, an impressive winner at ; Forbury Park last Saturday night, will be the Summer Handicap favourite. There will also be solid backing for the Leeston stablemates, Asia Minor and When, and the improving [Castleton’s Gift Uteena, a stablemate of Castleton’s Gift dropped out of the Summer Handicap field yesterday. The second leg of the main ■
Young has several good drives, including the last-start winners Rannach Lad and Adorato. The former will probably be a firm favourite for the Harewood Handicap, an event for 2min 17sec class trotters, and Adorato will be high on the list of fancied runners in | the Farewell Stakes. Harbour Light will be an-' other good trotter which will be handled by Young. She could be one of the major contenders in the Summer
double, the February Handicap, was left without a firm favourite when Cloudy Bay dropped out of the field. Perhaps Password, Cuddle Doon and Peerswick will have the best backing in what now appears to be a wide open field. There will be a double for course patrons only on the Lyttelton Handicap and the Airways Stakes. One of the most popular combinations will be Dispense and CoPilot. The forecast is for conitinued fine weather so the i track will be in excellent I order.
