Liberalising Of Anzac Day Discussed By Govt.
WELLINGTON, Feb. 11. The Government caucus discussed yesterday the possibility of liberalising the observance of Anzac Day. The Prime Minister, Mr Holyoake, said after a meeting of the caucus that the discussion was affected by proposals put forward by the Returned Services’ Association. At present strict laws govern drinking hours and entertainment during Anzac Day. Mr Holyoake said that there would be no change in the observance of the day this year—April 25 —because Par-
(Neto Zealand Press Association)
'liament would have to pass legislation covering any change. Parliament usually reassembles in late May or early June.
Will Not Tell
Mr Holyoake said he had “pretty well” made up his mind on the opening date of the third session of the thirty-fourth Parliament. It would not be right to name the date yet, however, he said. Asked if he had decided when he would call a General Election this year, he said: “No, not yet.”
