APPEALS FAIL
Burgler And Forger
Saying that Frederick Carl Rosel, aged 22, a workman, must have realised an expedition “to collect gear” from Scargill was a dishonest one when a house had to be broken into to get it, Mr Justice Wilson dismissed his appeal in the Supreme Court yesterday against a year’s imprisonment for burglary. Rosel, who conducted his own appeal, said he had driven “an Indian boy,” formerly employed by the Nassella Tussock Board, up to Scargill ‘To get his gear” without any intention of committing a burglary. “It must have been pretty fishy to you when he had to break into the place on arrival.” said his Honour. “He just opened the window to get in,” said Rosel. His Honour painted out that Rosel had participated “in the resultant loot,” and had been on parale at the time.
An appeal by Anzac Robert Williams, aged 21, a workman, against a sentence of nine months’ imprisonment for forgery was also dismissed.
Williams did not appear, nor was he represented by counsel, his Honour saying that there were no circumstances justifying legal aid. After saying that Williams had a long list of offences, and that his present written submissions were without merit, his Honour dismissed the appeal.
Wrestling Camp.—A Spartantype camp for 30 amateur wrestlers will be held at Taupo this week-end. Wrestlers will come from all over the North Island for the three-day camp, organised by the former Empire Games wrestler, Mr B E. Courtney.
