WELLINGTON, Feb. 11
The grand old man of New Zealand Rugby, Billy Wallace, watched his daughter almost reach the final of the New Zealand women’s bowls fours championships at Miramar yesterday.
His daughter, Mrs Joan Redgrave, was lead in Mrs M. Dedman’s Wellington four, who, after a marathon semifinal battle, were eliminated by Mrs J. Wilkie (Lower Hutt). After 18 ends the Wellington four was leading 21-15, but then came a great rally
by the Lower Hutt bowlers. They scored a 4 on the nineteenth, a 3 on the twentieth and a 4 on the twenty-first, to win the match, 25-21. In the final today, Mrs Wilkie will meet Mrs M. Raine (Wanganui), who, in the other semi-final, beat Mrs I. Wealleans (Matamata). Two former title-holders were eliminated in the fourth round. Mrs Wealleans had a comfortable win over last year’s champion, Mrs G. Smith fKaiapoi), 31-16, and the 1964 champion, Mrs I. Opie (Hawera) was beaten by Mrs T. Skinner (Levin), 22-18. Results:—
