Cup Candidates Arouse Interest

"The Press" Special Service PALMERSTON NORTH. I Roman Consul and Baloo aroused interest at Woodville yesterday when they completed a useful mile trial in preparation for the Queen Anne Cup at Wanganui tomorrow.

Marine put plenty of dash into his I trial and one or two hard races have not affected him. He could be hard to beat in -the Harrison Hack Handicap. Dark Smudge, with the outside running, had Avelyn ! struggling and Sail Away ] beaten off at the end of a 'fine gallop over a mile in Imin |46sec, the last three in 38 :4-ssec. Dark Smudge has obviously improved considerably. He should be at his peak for the Woodville Cup.
