N.Z. Censorship ‘Works’
(New Zealand Press Association)
WELLINGTON, Feb. 9. New Zealahd’s censorship laws were “more open” than Australia's, and they worked better, Mr F. M. Wilkes, a member of the Victorian State Parliament, said today. Mr Wilkes was not prepared to say whether New Zealand “leniency” would meet with the approval of the Victorian Government. “Your people let more in than ours do.” he said.
Mr Wilkes is the leader of a seven-man Victorian Parliamentary Statutes Revision Committee which is in New Zealand to investigate among other things, the Indecent Publications Tribunal. The committee, which represents the three political parties in the State Parliament, will return next week. “But the report might not be in the form of recommendations,” Mr Wilkes said.
