Horse Doping Plot (N.Z.P. A.-Reuter—Copyright) LONDON. A man was gaoled for five years and two others for four years in the Berkshire Assizes Court for their roles in a horse doping plot. Joseph Lowry, aged 52, a stallholder. was gaoled for five vears and Leonard Steward. 32, salesman, and John Barnham, 33, taxi driver, for four years after a jury found them ' guilty of jointly conspiring to cheat and defraud the owners and trainer of a racehorse named Spare Filly, bookmakers and people betting on the horse, by administering drugs to affect its race performance last September. Mr Justice Veale said: "This kind of offence is becoming too common. Not only you. but others who are niinded to behave as you have behaved, must be made to realise that severe punishment will follow.”
