DROUGHT BROKEN

Heavy Rains In Rhodesia (N.Z.P. A.-Reuter—Copyright) SALISBURY, Feb. 9. Heavy rains yesterday brought relief to various drought-stricken parts of Rhodesia. The drought is in its fifth year in some areas. Thousands of head of cattle have starved to death and there have been huge crop losses, mostly in the midlands and provinces in the south and south-east. Heavy rain on Monday night cut the railway line near Gwanda, about 85 miles from Bulawayo. Rail traffic from South Africa was also likely to be delayed by wash-outs in neighbouring Bechuanaland, a railway spokesman said.
