FIT AFTER SMASH
Not Driving This Season "The Press" Special Service AUCKLAND. The Pukekohe trainer-driver, R. Purdon, who has done no race driving since he was injured in a smash at Alexandra Park last October, will not take drives again until next season. He said yesterday: “I feel fit enough but I have decided not to drive again this season.” Purdon has been having a great run with his team lately. e trained three winners at Qaudelands last Wednesday, and three more at Alexandra Park last Saturday. He has a strong team engaged on the second night of the Auckland meeting on Saturday.
Golcourt showed by a dashing workout at Pukekohe that he was no longer troubled by the soreness that prevented him from contesting the Otahuhu Handicap on the first night of the Auckland Trotting Club's meeting. He i« a candidate for the Alexandra Handicap, the main race on the second night on Saturday.
Driven by Purdon he paced 13 furlongs in 3min 40 2-ssec, the last half-mile in 2min 11 2-5 sec. He reeled off the final half-mile in Imin 2 2-ssec and the quarter in 31 2-ssec. Golcourt displayed no sign of soreness after cooling off
