International Night Plans
Arrangements for the Can-‘-"'bury branch of the New and Business and Profesal Women’s Clubs’ international night were announced by the president, Miss T. Eldridge, at a meeting on Monday evening. Christchurch members will keep international night on February 21, on the same night as more than 350,000 members in 33 countries throughout the world. The local speaker will be Miss P. M. Robinson, principal of Christchurch Girls’ High School. The theme of the evening
will be, “The challenge of a changing world in education and training.” This topic will be discussed by all members throughout the world during the observation of International Week, by the International Federation of Business and Professional Women. The New Zealand president, Miss P. L. Gapper of Wellington, in her message asks members to first decide what they mean by education preparation for a career or for the whole life, and asks them to view the purpose of education in its broadest sense. Scientific and technological changes of today were affecting all aspects of life and Miss Gapper suggested that one sphere of work that the federation has yet to touch on was youth. “One of our responsibilities is to do all we can to make certain that our young people are educated for the world of tomorrow and are adequately trained to cope with that world’s problems," she said. After the meeting an illustrated talk was given by Mrs R. J. Miles Banks on the Royal gardens. While in Eng-
land two years ago, Mrs Miles Banks was one of the gardeners attending to the grounds of the Queen Mother’s home, Clarence House, Marlborough House, and Lancaster House.
