DETENTION SENTENCE

WELLINGTON, Feb. 2.

Terence Janies West, aged 17, a fitter and turner, was sentenced to a detention centre, to be followed by 12 months’ probation, when he appeared for sentence before Mr J. F. Keane, S.M., In Lower Hutt on a charge of arson.

Special conditions of his probation were that he have no interest in any motor vehicle and that he pay restitution of £7 10s on the first charge. West appeared for sentence on a charge of wilfully setting fire to a tent at the scout jamboree at Trentham and on another of using threatening language.
