Long Flight
An albatross wearing a Dominion Museum bird ring has been caught off the coast of Chile. The bird was netted by a student, Ivan Melo, aged 17, on Sunday about 260 miles south of Santiago near the island of Santa Maria. The Dominion Museum will investigate the report. • Busy Mr Kerr Graham Kerr, well known in New Zealand for his cooking demonstrations on television, left Wellington this week to spend four weeks in Sydney filming a series of cookery programmes for Australian television. When he has finished he will return to New Zealand to record 13 programmes with the New Zealand Broadcasting Corporation. He will then return to Sydney for more filming. In May he will open New Zealand’s first international food school in Wellington. Later he will make a colour television series in Tahiti and London. Warm Day Temperatures were warm ip Christchurch yesterday. The temperature at Harewood at 6 a.m. was 60 degrees. This rose to 67 degrees at 9 a.m. and 73 degrees at noon. The maximum temperature recorded at Harewood was 75 degrees at 1 p.m. The temperature then dropped to 70. degrees at 3 p.m. At the Botanic Gardens a temperature of 69 degrees was recorded at 3 p.m. The temperature gauge on the Government Life building registered 66 degrees at 4.30 p.m. A moderate easterly wind freshened in the afternoon. College Hall Christ’s College hopes to open its new assembly hall during the college sports week-end in October, 1967 Work has started on the contract of Messrs Paynter and Hamilton, Ltd., to build the £223,018 hall. So far old boys, parents and friends have promised to give £156.880. Gifts already received total £88,950 and this had earned interest of £3336.
