MOST EXCLUSIVE FORD

rpHE fastest, most exclusive Ford automobile ever made —each one to be individually tailored to its buyer—is now being offered for sale to the public. It is a special, de-tuned road version of the 200 m.p.h. G.T. which holds the Le Mans lap record and has won outright the Daytona and Sebring Endurance Races. The cost is £5500 and customers will have a choice of at least 150 colours.

The controls are set up for each individual because the seats are fixed to the floor and only the pedals can be

adjusted to suit the customer. Customers will be asked to visit the factory at Slough, Buckinghamshire, England, for a fitting—or send their measurements if they live abroad. Although the Ford 4.7 litre, V 8 engine is de-tuned for road use it still produces 335 b.h.p. at 6250 r.p.m. This will give a maximum speed 164 m.p.h. and maximum speeds of: Ist —5B m.p.h., 2nd—9o m.p.h., 3rd—l27 m.p.h., 4th—l42 m.p.h., and top—l 64 m.p.h. Externally, the road version of the Ford G.T. appears little different from the cars which broke the lap records at Le

Mans two years in succession. It is only 3ft 4in high and the driver and passenger are seated in a semi-reclining position following modern practice in racing and high performance G.T. cars. The headlights are enclosed within the bodywork and the smooth, aerodynamic shape of the G.T. is maintained by the use of perspex covers. A single, variable speed wiper blade is fitted. This arm and blade, which has been developed at speeds of up to 200 m.p.h. on the racing Ford G.T., clings to the screen under all conditions.

Electric pumps in each of the two tanks deliver fuel to the Weber carburettors and with a capacity of 31 gallons and an average fuel consumption of between 10 and 15 m.p.g. the road Ford G.T. has a range of approximately 400 miles.
