Mr D. P. Davies, chief test pilot for the British Air Registration Board, has arrived in Auckland on a short visit. Since 1949 he has been responsible for the certification and approval for service of every major civil airliner built in Britain. He will have talks with Civil Aviation Department and airline representatives.—(P.A.).
Mr ,C. A. L. Treadwell, a Wellington lawyer, has been conferred with the National Order of the Southern Cross, in the rank of chevalier, in recognition of his 25 years' service as consul for Brazil in New Zealand. The honour was conferred by the Brazilian Government through its Ambassador to Australia. Mr
Treadwell, who is 76, is a patient in a private hospital in Karori, Wellington.— (P.A.). Mr A. A. Macfarlane. as chairman of the Lyttelton Harbour Board for a record six-year term, and as a longservice chairman of the Amur, County Council, richly deserved the award of the 0.8. E. in the New Year honours, the new chairman of the board (Mr L. G. Amos) said yesterday. Members applauded to pass a motion of congratulations to Mr Macfariane.
The president of the Canterbury branch of the New Zealand Timber Workers' Union (Mr M. G. Drake) was elected a life member of the union at its annual national conference in Wellington.
