Little Movement In Quiet Start To Week
Trading started the week quietly with the Auckland exchange closed and only light business on the other exchanges. Both Australian and New Zealand shares were steady over a narrow range.
New Zealand Insurance rose Id on last week’s Auckland close to change hands at 21s 6d in Christchurch and Wellington. Tekau lifted 6d to 14s 6d making a gain of Is this year. N.Z. Forest Products rose another Id to 225. British Office Supplies at 20s and New Zealand Cement at 40s 6d both sold down on pre-Christmas prices. Pye lost 3d to 13s 6d. Fluctuations by overseas shares were narrow. Woolworths at 12s 4d rose a Id and W. R. Carpenter gained 3d to 245. Australian Consolidated Industries at 52s 3d and Mount Isa at 39s 9d each lost 3d.
