Consequences Of Bombing ‘Dreaded’

(N Z.P.A. Reuter —Copyright)

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan. 31.

The Malaysian Premier, Tunku Abdul Rahman, said today he dreaded the consequences of resumed American bombing in North Vietnam,

He told reporters at an informal press conference: “There should be a peaceful approach to the Vietnam problem. “I dread to think of the consequences if bombing should be resumed. “1 also hope that the North Vietnamese Government will think of the consequences, and come to the conference table.” Ho's Letter The Kuala Lumpur “Straits Times” said today that in spite of the menace of Communist reinforcement of the Viet Cong, there was still good reason for not resuming the American bombardment of North Vietnam.

The English-language daily said: “One of them is North Vietnamese President Ho Chi Minh’s letter to the Communist world.

“It is not a hopeful letter, for it restates impossible conditions for peace talks. But it ns a letter; there is communication. “It is realised in Hanoi that the American drive for

peace has impressed many Governments not notably friendly to America, so something has to be said. “The Americans would be stupid to renew the bombing while the world is pondering over the Hanoi note: A handful of days, a week or two more, time is not quite as vital as that.”
