Profit Drops, Div. Steady (N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) SYDNEY, Jan. 21. Melbourne-based Carlton and United Breweries, Ltd., will pay an unchanged 5 per cent interim dividend for the half year ended December 31 in spite of a slight drop in profit Directors say in a telegram to the Stock Exchange today although sales were slightly higher than for the previous corresponding six months, profit decreased marginally. Interim dividend will be paid on February 25 to shareholders registered on February 4. C.U.B. has raised its total dividend in each of the last three years. It was 12 per cent (interim 5 per cent, final 7 per cent) in 1963, 12J per cent (interim 5 per cent, final 7J per cent) in 1964, and in 1965 it was raised to 13 per cent (interim 5 per cent, final 8 per cent). Profit for 1965 was a record £3.58m and earning rate improved from 19.75 per cent to a peak 22.7 per cent, N.Z. Reserves Up Slightly (N.Z Press Association) WELLINGTON, Jan. 21. Net overseas assets of the New Zealand banking system on January 12 were £som, compared with £48.2m on January 5 and £65.8m on January 13 last year. These figures were announced today by the Reserve Bank. U.S. Embargo On Copper (N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) WASHINGTON, Jan. 20. The United States today put a virtual embargo on all exports of copper ores and other unrefined copper because of increasing scarcity of the metal. The Government also announced strict export quotas for all categories of copper products, including a 25,000ton quota for refined copper in the first half of 1966.
