FEARS FOR SAFETY

Youth Missing In Swamp (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Jan. 21. The police have fears for the safety of a 17-year-old youth missing in mangrove swamps at Te Pora Beach, on the Kaipara Harbour, since 1.30 p.m. on Thursday. The boy, Kenneth Wayne Watene, left his home at noon on Thursday to collect shellfish at the beach. His utility vehicle became bogged in the swamp and he returned home to get a tractor to drag it out. He was last seen driving the tractor towards the beach. The tractor was found stuck fast in the swamp near the utility vehicle. Police said the youth was wearing short gumboots and might have got into difficulties when the tractor became bogged down. The area will be searched early tomorrow.
