STOLE TINS OF SALMON

Water sider Fined Frank Hines, aged 33, a watersider, was fined £5 by Mr E. S. J. Crutchley, S.M., in the Lyttelton Magistrate’s Court when he was convicted of stealing two tins of salmon valued at 3s Bd. The accused was questioned by customs officers when coming ashore from the motorvessel Crusader at Lyttelton, the Court was told. Such cases were rare in his experience, the Magistrate said. He refused to suppress the accused’s name because, he said, the accused was employed in a position of trust. CAST OFFENSIVE MATTER Charged with casting offensive matter, Clarence Wilfred Johnson, a seaman, was fined £5. Another man, whose name was suppressed, was fined £2 for a similar offence. MINOR IN BAR Rodger Joseph Greenaway, aged 19, a ship’s steward, was fined £3 for being in a hotel bar while under age.
