More Passengers Used Chch. Airport Last Year
The Christchurch Airport authority and the airlines could be pleased with progress made last year, the airport manager (Mr A L R. Jamieson) said yesterday. “Of particular interest is the continued growth in our international passenger and freight traffic." said Mr Jamieson. He said that reflected the impact of pure jets. Domestic traffic had maintained a very satisfactory increase and such things as rental cars and concessions had shown increased turnover Last year 517.218 domestic air passengers passed through the airport. In 1964 the total was 445.000. This was a 16.2 per cent increase. Freight handled last year amounted
to 25,229,6991 b. a 4 per cent increase over 1964's figure of 24.280,0001 b. A total of 6.800,2181 b of mail was carried, a slight decrease on 1964 when 6,890.5601 b was handled. International passengers who passed through the airport totalled 54.358. In 1964 there were 43,629. This was an increase of 24.6 per cent. : There was a 27.3 per cent ini crease in the amount of i freight carried. Last year’s total was 948,6861 b. compared with 745,000 in 1964. Mail amounted to 154,0221 b. an 8 per cent increase over the previous year when 142.6001 b was carried. Aircraft movements totalled 113.400. compared with 81,724 in 1964, a 38.8 per cent increase.
