Still Keeps Time

(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Jan. 17. A watch believed to have been made last century and found at Orokawa Bay, just north of Waihi beach, during the Christmas holidays loses only three-quarters of a minute in 24 hours. It was discovered in an area of deserted mines in a quartz reef by Mr W. E. Browne, of 82 Litten road, Howick, who was on holiday in the area. When Mr Browne picked the watch up and wound it, it started immediately. It shows signs of being burnt—the charred remnants of two ivory ornaments rest in two very tarnished settings. It is believed the area was burnt out about 1937.
