HOLIDAY CAMP

Forest And Bird Society

More than 150 members of the Royal Forest and Bird Protection Society gathered at Arthur’s Pass yesterday for their seventh South Island holiday camp. Members from all parts of New Zealand were at the camp, which will run to January 13. This is the second camp of its kind to be held at the pass. Under the auspices of the Canterbury branch, the camp was organised by Mr I. H. Gray, and was planned by invitation to coincide with the Arthur’s Pass National Park’s nature programme. The many activities will cater for young and old, and will include nature walks, evening lectures, art, colouring, and plant naming competitions as well as a fancy dress evening. Competent scientists will be on hand throughout to identify flora and fauna, and at the conclusion of the camp a two-day tramp into the mountains has been organised.
