FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT Situation: A trough of low pressure over northern New Zealand is moving slowly eastwards. A ridge of high pressure extends on to central New Zealand while disturbed westerlies persist south of the country. Canterbury: Winds moderate and variable south-west for a time this morning; north-east later; some cloudy areas with a few scattered light showers, mainly about the coast; otherwise partly cloudy; moderate temperatures. Outlook: Partly cloudy. Buller and Westland: Moderate variable winds; fine, with mild day temperatures. Outlook: Fine. Nelson and Marlborough: Winds moderate and variable; a few isolated showers still likely about the Kaikoura coast; elsewhere partly cloudy; moderate temperatures. Outlook : Partly cloudy.
