TRAWLER SINKS
Soviet Seamen Saved (N.Z.P. A. -Reuter —Copyright) LERWICK (Shetland), Jan. 6. Thirteen Russian seamen were plucked from stormtossed freezing seas when their trawler sank off the Faroe Islands, 300 miles north-west of Lerwick last night. All but one of the 24 crew from the Soviet trawler—believed to be named Logger—were taken aboard an unidentified ship.
A British Air Force Shackleton, equipped with flares and rescue equipment, circled the area today as the Soviet tug Stojkij raced to the scene from Lerwick. Gale force winds with low clouds and rain were reported in the area.
