MELBOURNE ESCAPERS

Police Search In Wellington (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Jan. 3 Detectives today searched Wellington hotels and criminal haunts for the Melbourne gaol escapers Ronald Ryan, aged 41, and Peter Walker, aged 24. Police also boarded an overseas ship and questioned the first officer. An attendant at Porirua Hospital told the police he believed he saw Walker drinking in a city hotel. Walker and Ryan escaped from Pentridge Gaol. Melbourne, 14 days ago, killing a warder in their break out. The Wellington police later visited the survey ship Merino, which arrived today from Australia. A detective said tonight that the police were still taking the reported sighting seriously.
